Structure

Three orders, one common life

The Order welcomes a range of vocations — from those called to vowed religious life to those who walk beside us in prayer.

I
Professed Religious

The First Order

Members of the First Order are the professed religious of the Anglican Order of Our Lady of Walsingham. They live under the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience, either in community or as dispersed members assigned to a Regional House of the Order.

Members of the First Order commit themselves to:

  • Life Profession under the evangelical counsels of Poverty, Chastity, and Obedience
  • Faithful observance of the Rule of the Order
  • Daily Morning and Evening Prayer
  • Weekly participation in the Holy Eucharist
  • Marian devotion and remembrance of Our Lady of Walsingham
  • Annual retreat and pilgrimage
  • Active participation in a Regional House
  • Service to those in crisis, suffering, and need
  • Ongoing formation and spiritual direction

The First Order exists not to withdraw from the world, but to bear Christ into it, serving as a visible witness of prayer, presence, hospitality, and service wherever God calls its members.

II
Oblates living a Rule in the world

The Second Order

Oblates are women and men — single, married, ordained, or lay — who profess a Rule adapted to their state of life and vocation. They live the charism of the Order within their families, parishes, and places of work, often as chaplains, healers, teachers, and servants of the suffering.

  • Annual oblation
  • Adapted Rule of Life
  • Spiritual direction
  • Yearly retreat with the Order
III
Companions in prayer & support

The Third Order

Companions are friends of the Order who promise prayer, friendship, and material support, but do not undertake a full Rule. They form a wider fellowship of intercession that surrounds and sustains the work of the religious and oblates.

  • A simple promise of prayer
  • Quarterly intentions
  • Invitation to all retreats and pilgrimages
  • No vows required
