The rhythm that holds us
A Rule is not a cage but a trellis — a frame upon which a life may grow toward the sun.
- 01
The Daily Office
Members shall pray Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer daily from the Book of Common Prayer or another authorized Anglican office, joining their voices to the unceasing prayer of the Church throughout the world.
- 02
Frequent Eucharist
Members shall participate in the Holy Eucharist weekly whenever reasonably possible, receiving the Blessed Sacrament with reverence and thanksgiving, and making the Eucharistic feast the spiritual center of their lives.
- 03
Marian Devotion
Members shall cultivate a devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Patroness of the Order, through the daily recitation of the Angelus, a Marian antiphon, or another approved devotion. Saturdays shall be observed as a special remembrance of Our Lady of Walsingham.
- 04
Hospitality
Members shall strive to receive every person as they would receive Christ Himself, extending kindness, welcome, and compassion in every place of encounter: at the bedside, the desk, the threshold, and the table.
- 05
Service to Those in Crisis
Members shall give themselves particularly to the service of those who suffer, including the sick, the dying, the bereaved, the fearful, the lonely, and the forgotten, bearing witness to the presence and mercy of Christ.
- 06
Annual Pilgrimage
Each member shall undertake an annual pilgrimage as an act of spiritual renewal. Pilgrimage to Walsingham is encouraged whenever possible; otherwise, members may journey to a shrine, cathedral, parish church, retreat center, or other holy place.
- 07
Study and Examen
Members shall engage daily in the reading of Holy Scripture and the study of the Christian faith. They shall undertake a weekly examination of conscience and participate in an annual retreat under the guidance of the Order or an approved spiritual director.
- 08
Presence
Members shall strive to be faithfully present where Christ calls them, especially in places of suffering, uncertainty, grief, and transition. Remembering that ministry often begins not with words but with presence, they shall seek to bear the peace, compassion, and hope of Christ into every place entrusted to their care. As the Blessed Virgin Mary bore Christ into the world, so shall members of this Order seek to bear His presence into the lives of others.
